Moroccan Chebakia Recipe - A Sweet and Crunchy Treat for Special Occasions

Moroccan Chebakia is a traditional sweet pastry commonly served during Ramadan and other special occasions. These sweet and crunchy treats are made with a dough that's flavored with orange blossom water and coated in honey syrup. Follow this simple recipe to make your own Moroccan Chebakia and enjoy a taste of Morocco in your own home.


Make Delicious Chebakia with Kitchen Pal


Ingredients:

For the dough:

  • 3 cups of all-purpose flour

  • 1 tsp of ground cinnamon

  • 1/2 tsp of ground anise

  • 1/2 tsp of salt

  • 1/4 cup of vegetable oil

  • 1/4 cup of unsalted butter, melted

  • 1/4 cup of orange blossom water

  • 1/4 cup of water (or more, as needed)

For the syrup:

  • 1 1/2 cups of honey

  • 1/2 cup of water

  • 1 tsp of ground cinnamon

  • 1/4 tsp of ground anise

For frying:

  • Vegetable oil

Instructions:


To make the dough:

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, cinnamon, anise, and salt.

  2. Add the vegetable oil, melted butter, orange blossom water, and 1/4 cup of water to the bowl.

  3. Mix the ingredients together until a dough forms. If the dough is too dry, add more water as needed.

  4. Knead the dough for 10-15 minutes until it's smooth and elastic.

  5. Cover the dough and let it rest for 15-20 minutes.

To make the honey syrup:

  1. In a small saucepan, combine the honey, water, cinnamon, and anise.

  2. Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce the heat and let it simmer for 10-15 minutes.

  3. Remove the syrup from the heat and let it cool to room temperature.

To make the Chebakia:

  1. Divide the dough into small pieces and roll each piece into a thin rope.

  2. Shape each rope into a flower shape by crossing the ends over each other.

  3. Heat the vegetable oil in a deep frying pan or a deep fryer.

  4. Fry the Chebakia until they're golden brown on both sides, then remove them from the oil and drain them on a paper towel.

  5. Dip the fried Chebakia in the honey syrup, making sure to coat them well.

  6. Place the coated Chebakia on a wire rack to let the excess syrup drip off.

  7. Serve the Chebakia at room temperature and enjoy!
