Time of Preparing:

  • Preparation time: 5 minutes

  • Cooking time: 1 hour 30 minutes

  • Total time: 1 hour 35 minutes

Instructions:

  1. In a large saucepan, combine 1 liter of whole milk, 300g of granulated sugar, 1/4 teaspoon of baking soda, and 1/4 teaspoon of vanilla extract. Stir well to dissolve the sugar.

  2. Place the saucepan over medium heat and bring the mixture to a simmer, stirring frequently to prevent burning or sticking.

  3. Once the mixture reaches a simmer, reduce the heat to low and continue to cook, stirring frequently, for about 1 hour and 30 minutes, or until it thickens and turns a golden caramel color. Be patient and keep a close eye on the mixture to avoid burning.

  4. Remove the saucepan from the heat and let the dulce de leche cool for a few minutes.

  5. Transfer the dulce de leche to a clean and dry jar or container, and let it cool completely before sealing it with a lid.

  6. Store the dulce de leche in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks.

Note: The cooking time may vary depending on the desired consistency of the dulce de leche. For a thinner sauce, cook for less time; for a thicker spread, cook for longer. Stirring frequently is essential to prevent burning and ensure a smooth texture. Enjoy the authentic Argentinian taste of homemade dulce de leche in your favorite desserts or as a delightful spread on toast or pancakes!
