Time of Preparing:

Chill time: 2 hours
Instructions:
In a large mixing bowl, prepare the pudding mix according to the package instructions using 2 cups of milk. Once the pudding mix has thickened, place the bowl in the refrigerator to chill for at least 30 minutes.
While the pudding chills, prepare the fruit and cake layers. Cut the sponge cake or angel food cake into bite-sized cubes.
If you would like to add a bit of sweetness and flavor, you can drizzle sherry or another sweet liqueur over the cake cubes. This step is optional.
To assemble the trifle, start by placing a layer of cake cubes at the bottom of your trifle dish or a large glass bowl. Follow with a layer of the fruits, spreading it evenly over the cake layer.
Add a layer of fresh berries on top of the fruit cocktail, spreading them evenly.
Take the chilled pudding out of the refrigerator and spoon it over the fruit and cake layers, making sure it covers the berries completely. Use a spatula to smooth out the top of the pudding layer.
In a separate mixing bowl, whip the heavy cream and sugar until stiff peaks form. This will take about 2-3 minutes if using an electric mixer.
Spread the whipped cream evenly on top of the pudding layer, making sure to reach all the way to the edges of the dish.
If you have any leftover cake or fruit, you can use them to create a final decorative layer on top of the whipped cream. Alternatively, you can sprinkle some nuts or chocolate shavings over the top for added texture and flavor.
Chill the trifle in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours before serving. This will allow the flavors to meld together and for the pudding to set properly.
Serve the trifle cold and enjoy!
