Nothing says comfort food quite like a warm, hearty Shepherd's Pie. This classic British dish is the perfect way to satisfy your cravings on a chilly evening. In this recipe, we'll show you how to make a Shepherd's Pie that is both flavorful and filling. With a savory beef filling and a creamy mashed potato topping, this dish is sure to become a favorite in your household.


Make delicious Shepherd's Pie with Kitchen Pal


Ingredients:


For the filling:

  • 500gr ground beef

  • 1 onion, chopped

  • 2 cloves garlic, minced

  • 2 carrots, diced

  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste

  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce

  • 1 cup beef broth

  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme

  • Salt and pepper, to taste

For the mashed potato topping:

  • 1kg of potatoes, peeled and cut into chunks

  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter

  • 1/2 cup milk

  • Salt and pepper, to taste

Time of Preparing:

  • Prep Time: 20 minutes

  • Cook Time: 50 minutes

Instructions:

  1. Preheat the oven to 200°C/400°F.

  2. In a large skillet, brown the ground beef over medium heat.

  3. Add the chopped onion, minced garlic, and diced carrots to the skillet and sauté for 5-7 minutes, until the vegetables are softened.

  4. Stir in the tomato paste, Worcestershire sauce, beef broth, and dried thyme.

  5. Season the mixture with salt and pepper to taste.

  6. Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce the heat and let it simmer for 10-15 minutes until the liquid has reduced and the mixture has thickened.

  7. While the filling is simmering, prepare the mashed potato topping. Place the peeled and chopped potatoes in a pot of salted water and bring them to a boil.

  8. Let the potatoes cook for 15-20 minutes until they are fork-tender.

  9. Drain the potatoes and return them to the pot.

  10. Add the butter and milk to the pot and mash the potatoes until they are smooth.

  11. Season the mashed potatoes with salt and pepper to taste.

  12. Pour the beef filling into a 23x33 cm baking dish.

  13. Spoon the mashed potatoes over the top of the beef filling and spread them out evenly.

  14. Use a fork to create ridges on the surface of the mashed potatoes.

  15. Bake the Shepherd's Pie in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, until the top is golden brown.
