  • Total Time: 1 hour 15 minutes

Instructions:

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).

  2. In a mixing bowl, combine the flour, salt, and sugar. Add the cold cubed butter and mix until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

  3. Gradually add the ice water, one tablespoon at a time, and mix until the dough comes together in a ball.

  4. Flatten the dough into a disk, wrap it in plastic wrap, and refrigerate for 30 minutes.

  5. In a 10-inch oven-safe skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the granulated sugar and stir until it dissolves and turns golden brown.

  6. Add the sliced apples to the skillet and stir to coat with the caramel mixture. Sprinkle with cinnamon and nutmeg.

  7. Cook the apples over medium heat for about 10-15 minutes, until they are tender and the caramel has thickened.

  8. Remove the skillet from the heat and let it cool for a few minutes.

  9. On a lightly floured surface, roll out the chilled pastry dough into a circle slightly larger than the skillet.

  10. Place the pastry dough on top of the apples and tuck the edges into the sides of the skillet.

  11. Bake the Tarte Tatin in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until the pastry is golden brown and crispy.

  12. Remove the skillet from the oven and let it cool for 10 minutes.

  13. Invert the Tarte Tatin onto a serving plate, so that the caramelized apples are on top.

  14. Serve warm with a dollop of whipped cream or vanilla ice cream.
