Classic French Beef Bourguignon Recipe

Beef Bourguignon is a traditional French dish that is hearty, comforting, and perfect for cold winter evenings. This dish is made with tender beef stewed in red wine, along with bacon, onions, and mushrooms. The flavors are rich and complex, making it a perfect meal for impressing dinner guests or just enjoying with your family.


Make Delicious Beef Bourguignon with Kitchen Pal


Ingredients:

  • 1 kg. beef chuck, cut into 5cm cubes

  • 500 gr. bacon, diced

  • 2 onions, diced

  • 4 cloves garlic, minced

  • 500 gr. mushrooms, quartered

  • 3 cups red wine (preferably Burgundy)

  • 2 cups beef broth

  • 2 tbsp. tomato paste

  • 1 tbsp. fresh thyme leaves

  • 1 tbsp. fresh rosemary leaves

  • 2 bay leaves

  • Salt and pepper, to taste

  • 2 tbsp. all-purpose flour

  • 2 tbsp. butter

  • Parsley, for garnish

Instructions:

  1. Preheat your oven to 325°F (160°C).

  2. In a large Dutch oven or oven-safe pot, cook the bacon over medium heat until crispy. Remove with a slotted spoon and set aside.

  3. Add the beef to the pot and cook until browned on all sides, about 8 minutes. Remove with a slotted spoon and set aside.

  4. Add the onions and garlic to the pot and cook until softened, about 5 minutes. Add the mushrooms and cook until they release their moisture, about 5 minutes.

  5. Add the red wine, beef broth, tomato paste, thyme, rosemary, bay leaves, salt, and pepper to the pot. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 10 minutes.

  6. In a small bowl, mix the flour and butter together to form a paste. Add the paste to the pot and stir until combined.

  7. Return the beef and bacon to the pot and stir to combine.

  8. Cover the pot and place it in the oven. Cook for 2 hours, or until the beef is tender.

  9. Remove from the oven and let cool for a few minutes. Garnish with parsley and serve hot.
