  • 500 gr shrimp, peeled and deveined

  • 4 cups of water or chicken broth

  • 3 stalks of lemongrass, bruised and cut into 5cm pieces

  • 5 kaffir lime leaves, torn

  • 4 slices of galangal

  • 5 Thai chilies, crushed

  • 1 medium-sized onion, chopped

  • 1 tomato, chopped

  • 2 tablespoons of fish sauce

  • 2 tablespoons of lime juice

  • 1 tablespoon of sugar

  • 1/2 cup of fresh cilantro leaves
